2022 Máté Mantus Merlot
Tasting Notes
Opaque ruby with deep intensity. The nose reveals lush black cherry, mocha, and dried rose, framed by hints of spice and oak. On the palate, the wine is plush and mouth-coating, with dark fruit, supple tannins, and a velvety finish that lingers with notes of cocoa and baking spice.
About Máté
A family-run estate nestled in the Santa Restituta area of Montalcino, Tuscany, Máté is owned by author Ferenc Máté and his wife, artist and winemaker Candace. The winery is situated on land that was once a Roman vineyard 2,000 years ago. The couple restored an abandoned 13th-century friary and transformed the surrounding 17 acres into an organic vineyard. They cultivate Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, producing wines that reflect the diverse terroir of the estate. Their wines are expressive, true to their origins, and highly sought-after.
