2023 Domaine Frederic Mabileau José

Tasting Notes

Luminous blush pink with a touch of copper. The nose is inviting and perfumed, showing citrus peel, watermelon rind, and wild strawberry. On the palate, the wine is energetic and lithe, offering bright red fruit and a gentle herbal nuance over racy acidity. The finish is brisk and mouthwatering, with a clean, mineral note.

About Domaine Frederic Mabileau

The Mabileau family's vineyard cultivation dates back to the late 19th century, spanning five generations. In 1991, Frédéric and Nathalie Mabileau embarked on their own journey by establishing an independent estate separate from Frédéric’s parents. They started with 7 acres of Cabernet Franc vines known as "Les Rouillères" in the sand and gravel terroir of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. By 1996, they had expanded to 22 acres, and in 2003, Frédéric's parents retired, passing on 37 acres of vineyards to Frédéric. The oldest vines date back to 1947, a testament to the family's long history in winemaking.

Frédéric produced authentic wines by respecting nature's rhythms and was recognized in 2007 with organic certification. Hand-harvested grapes are carefully tended from vine to bottle, ensuring quality and environmental stewardship. Frédéric adopted biodynamic treatments, earning BIODYVIN certification in 2018. Tragically, Frédéric passed away in 2020. His youngest son, Rémy, assumed winemaker duties. Rémy introduced new cuvées, including the renowned “FRED,” in memory of Frédéric. Remy continues with the passion and skill of his father and is experimenting in limited quantities with grape varietals such as Grolleau and Pineau d’Aunis.
